Woman granted bail over alleged stalking of Greens senator

A 40-year-old Perth woman accused of stalking and attempting to extort Greens senator Jordon Steele-John has been granted bail by a Western Australian court, according to The Guardian.
She appeared at Perth's magistrates court on Thursday. She faces charges of aggravated stalking with intent to intimidate and demanding property by written threats. Magistrate Clare Stanyer ordered her released on a $5,000 surety, which is a sum promised to the court as a guarantee that she will obey her bail conditions.
The conditions bar her from coming within 100 metres of the senator, including his workplace and home. She must also not contact, or attempt to contact, Jordon Alexander Steele-John by any means. She has been ordered to surrender any passport in her possession to a WA police station within 48 hours. The magistrate ordered that she not be identified.
The Age reports that the accused woman is the senator's ex-partner. The charges and bail hearing came as a WA Greens inquiry into Senator Steele-John began.
The senator has denied allegations about his conduct towards women between 2017 and 2025. Those allegations are being investigated by the WA Greens and have been referred to the independent parliamentary standards commission.
