Eddie Marsan plays Thrain in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3, and the season arrives on Prime Video on 11 November. Amazon MGM Studios lists the season as an original series with that launch date.

Thrain is the older son of King Durin III and the elder brother of Durin IV. Durin IV has been anointed as the next king, but Thrain challenges for the crown as the technically rightful heir. Owain Arthur plays Durin IV.

The story picks up from the season 2 finale, in which Durin III gave his own life to confront a Balrog he had accidentally awoken. Simon Pegg voices the Balrog in season 3, according to the Amazon MGM Studios press site.

Marsan has a personal link to the franchise. Variety reports that his wife, Janine Schneider-Marsan, was a makeup artist on the original Lord of the Rings films, where she did the makeup for Orlando Bloom and Liv Tyler. Marsan told the outlet that the couple once stored around 2,000 pairs of Bloom's prosthetic Elven ears in the loft of their old house.

He also remembers visiting her in New Zealand while she worked on the films. He was shooting Gangs of New York at the time. She went back to New Zealand for years afterwards, for sequels and pickup shoots.

Marsan said he joined the show partly for a joke. He gets to play the son of his friend Peter Mullan. His acting career spans more than 20 years, according to Amazon's cast page for him.

For viewers, the key details are simple. The season launches on Prime Video on 11 November, and Amazon lists worldwide distribution for it.
