007 First Light Opens With a Free Demo on PS5, Xbox and Steam
Players can now try the opening of 007 First Light for free. The demo is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam, according to Video Games Chronicle, which reported it on 5 November 2026.
The demo is called 007 First Light – Free Starter Pack. It covers only the game's first mission, titled Against the Odds, which is set in Iceland. The mission takes about an hour to finish.
Access depends on the platform. On Steam and Xbox, the starter pack is open to everyone. On PS5, the demo requires a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, a paid tier of PlayStation's online service that includes access to certain games.
Progress carries over. Anyone who plays the demo and then buys the full game keeps their progress from the opening mission, so they do not have to start again.
The full game is described by its developer, IO Interactive, as a brand new James Bond title that tells the origin story of the world's most famous spy. The studio calls it a thrilling narrative action-adventure game. Bond is a recruit for MI6, Britain's foreign intelligence service, in this version of the story.
A few other updates are listed on the developer's site. IO Interactive says the Extended Operations Free DLC is out now, with missions playable. DLC, short for downloadable content, is extra material added to a game after release. Photo Mode, a tool for taking and framing screenshots inside the game, is also now available.
The studio showed more of the game before this week. In September 2025, PlayStation ran a State of Play showcase, a streamed presentation of upcoming games, that included more than 30 minutes of gameplay. That footage followed Bond's first mission as a new MI6 recruit. A story trailer followed in February 2026. Game Informer, after a closed demo in September 2025, described a mix of linear missions and more open ones, including a hotel infiltration.
For anyone unsure whether the game suits them, the demo offers a single hour of play at no charge on Steam and Xbox. PS5 players will need the Premium tier to start it.
