Nier: Automata Update Pushes Install Size From 50GB to 366GB

A recent Steam update to Nier: Automata has raised the space the game asks for on a player's drive from around 50GB to 366GB, Video Games Chronicle reported on 5 November 2026.
Steam is the PC games storefront run by Valve. The game's listing there still showed 50GB as the required space, even while installs requested more.
The cause is a bug. According to the report, it added the full game's file size to the file size of each piece of downloadable content, or DLC, the add-on packs that sit on top of the base game. The result is a much larger figure on the install screen.
The update that carried the bug added support for Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Those language options are the reason the update exists, and the bug arrived with them.
Players who have not yet installed the game, or the update, are being advised to wait. The same report recommends holding off on both until a hotfix, a small, fast patch aimed at a specific problem, fixes the bug.
Anyone who has already downloaded the update will want to check how much space their copy is taking, and whether the drive has room for the larger request. Owners who see the 366GB figure are not being asked to delete anything. The advice is simply to wait for the correction before going further.
The story is a reminder that a size on a storefront is a estimate built from the files behind it, and a file-count error can change that number overnight. A fix for the bug would bring the requested space back in line with the game itself, but until a patch lands, the number on screen is the one to trust least.
