Christian Dior, the French fashion house, has set up a Christmas pop-up at Harrods, the London department store, to show Jonathan Anderson's debut cruise collection for the brand. The pop-up runs from Friday until 27 December. A cruise collection is a resort-style range shown between the main seasons of the fashion calendar.

The ground floor is filled with life-size nutcrackers and harlequins. The interiors borrow mouldings, Versailles parquet flooring and moiré-fabric seating from Dior's historic address at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris, according to WWD. Moiré is a fabric with a rippled, watered pattern.

The design is partly inspired by a short animated film, "Christian Dior's Night in Color." Dior asked Sylvain Chomet, the French director who received an Oscar nomination, to make it. The film draws on the friendship between the founder, Christian Dior, and the actress and singer Marlene Dietrich. Robert Pattinson, a Dior brand ambassador, narrates it. Dior unveiled the film on its online platforms in early November.

The voice cast and characters are listed as follows:

  • Rihanna as The Lucky Star
  • Louis Garrel as Dior
  • Camille Cottin as Dietrich

Josh O'Connor, LaKeith Stanfield, Greta Lee, Nine d'Urso and Nadia Tereszkiewicz also appear in the film.

Shoppers who visit the pop-up can buy the Mlle Dior pump there. A pump is a closed shoe with no laces or straps. The style is sold exclusively at the Harrods space, according to the same report.

Dior's link with the store goes back more than seventy years. In 1953, Christian Dior opened a corner shop at the Knightsbridge store. A few months later, he chose Harrods as the venue for his spring 1954 collection. Dior returned for a Christmas takeover in 2022, called "The Fabulous World of Dior."

The pop-up keeps that history in view. It also gives the cruise collection a London setting, in a store where the house first sold its clothes to customers in Britain.
