Everton come from behind to beat Coventry as Thierno Barry scores twice

Everton came from behind to beat Coventry City 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday night, with Thierno Barry scoring twice. The win was Everton's third in a row, and it lifted them to fifth in the Premier League.
Barry has now scored 10 goals for the season in all competitions, according to The Guardian. That leaves him just behind Erling Haaland in the goalscoring chart. Barry's second goal appeared to come off his arm, a detail that will be talked about on the way home.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall settled it late on, adding Everton's third. He started the match in central midfield, the middle of the pitch where the team's passing and tackling are controlled.
The match was also a milestone for David Moyes. With the win, he equalled the record for games in charge of Everton, 592, set by Harry Catterick, who managed the club in the 1960s and 1970s. For Frank Lampard, it was a return to face his old club, this time as Coventry's manager.
Coventry had their own moments of frustration. Two penalty appeals involving James Tarkowski were both turned down by referee Stuart Attwell. Before the decision stood, the video assistant referee (VAR), Timothy Wood, checked the incidents on replays, a process used to spot clear and obvious errors. The appeals were not given.
It was also Coventry's first visit to Hill Dickinson, Everton's home since 2025. The fixture was Matchweek 10 of the 2026/27 Premier League season, a round in which teams often play in front of their own crowds for the first time after an international break.
For Everton, the result adds to a run that has seen them steadily climb the table. Barry's form has been a major part of it. Before this match, he had scored against promoted sides Ipswich and Hull in the previous five rounds of games.
Coventry will look back on a match they might have made harder for Everton, and Everton will look at the scoreline and remember that they had to come back to win it. Both are useful lessons at this stage of the season.
