Adam Driver Will Not Return for HBO's Girls Revival

Adam Driver will not reprise his role in HBO's Girls revival. Asked about a return, he told Deadline "No, but I wish them the best of luck."
Driver played Adam Sackler on the original series. HBO has announced a five-episode revival, meaning a short new run of a show that ended years ago. Production is set to begin in 2027.
The original Girls ran for six seasons, from 2012 to 2017. Lena Dunham created the show and starred as Hannah Horvath, a writer in her twenties trying to make her way in New York City. Dunham announced the revival alongside Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells.
Driver's name was missing from the cast section of HBO's press release about the revival, as Variety noted in October. Whether other male cast members will return also remains undecided, according to a Yahoo Entertainment report published on 6 November.
The reason for the absence is tied to an older dispute. In her memoir Famesick, Dunham wrote that Driver was "verbally aggressive" during the filming of Girls. She also said she never wrote his character to be a romantic hero.
When the claim came up at Cannes, Driver gave "no comment." He added that he was "saving it all for my book." He has not publicly responded to the memoir in any other detail.
For viewers, the news so far is simple. The revival is coming, it will run five episodes, and filming starts in 2027. The cast list is still being put together, and the return of the other male cast members has not been confirmed.
