Overcompensating Season 2 Gets a Tone Check: "2016 Millennial Hopecore"

Benito Skinner has a phrase for the new season of Overcompensating: "really going like 2016 millennial hopecore." The comedy's writer and star made the remark to Deadline, which published the interview on 8 November 2026.
Prime Video renewed the show for a second season in September 2025. A renewal means the streaming service has decided to keep a series going, so new episodes will be made. Skinner writes, stars in and executive produces the show, and he told Deadline he plays two characters this season.
He also teased that "something sinister" is coming. He did not say what that would be, and it is not clear yet how far the darker storyline will reach.
The series began as a straight-to-series order, which means Prime Video commissioned it without shooting a pilot episode first. That order was announced in February 2024. The show is semi-autobiographical, drawing on Skinner's own experience coming out as a college jock, the athlete who fits a certain macho stereotype. It is produced by A24, Strong Baby and Amazon MGM Studios.
Season 1 ran eight episodes and premiered on 15 May 2025, according to Amazon MGM Studios.
The cast is growing. Holmes has been moved up to a series regular for Season 2, playing Hailee. A series regular is a main cast member who appears across the season. The new season also features several guest stars, meaning performers who turn up in some episodes rather than all of them. Tom Francis plays Declan Bishop, Aisha Dee plays Naomi and AnnaSophia Robb plays Chels.
For the people who make the show, a renewal sets a whole production in motion. Writers, actors, camera crews and set builders all need to be booked again, and each new season is a fresh round of that work. Season 2 has not yet been given a premiere date, so viewers will need to watch for an announcement from Prime Video.
