Two new Spider-Man suits landed in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on July 28, 2026, and both are free. Update version 1.005.000, announced by developer Insomniac Games on its official X account, delivers the Fresh Start suit and the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls suit for Peter Parker, along with a visual upgrade for PS5 Pro owners and a new energy-saving mode for all PS5 consoles.

The Fresh Start suit takes its design from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest film in the franchise, which reached theatres the same week as the update. The crossover timing is no coincidence — film releases and game cosmetics have moved in lockstep across superhero titles for years, and this suit lets players swing through New York dressed in the movie's latest look.

The second addition, the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls suit, applies a cel-shaded art style — a technique that gives 3D graphics a hand-drawn, cartoon-like appearance — based on Spider-Man's look in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a Sony-published fighting game scheduled for release on August 6. It is essentially a teaser costume: a free taste of a character's appearance in one game, ported into another, a week before that game hits shelves.

Beyond cosmetics, the update brings technical changes. PS5 Pro owners gain support for enhanced PSSR, or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution — an upscaling technology that reconstructs higher-resolution images from lower-resolution renders, sharpening the picture without demanding the full processing power of native 4K. The update also adds Power Saver mode across PS5 consoles, which reduces game performance or resolution to cut energy consumption.

For fans, this means more reasons to revisit a game that has been steadily growing since its launch. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has received regular content drops since 2024: a March 7, 2024 update added New Game Plus mode, Hellfire Gala suits, and new accessibility features; a June 18, 2024 update delivered four community-requested suits split between Peter Parker and Miles Morales; and the PC release in January 2025 bundled 12 new suits, Ultimate Levels, new Symbiote Suit styles, and Time of Day options. The game also introduced Web Wings, which let players glide through the city rather than swinging alone.

What makes this update stand out is how efficiently it ties together different parts of Sony's entertainment calendar. A film in theatres, a fighting game launching next week, and a nearly three-year-old title all converge in a single patch — each suit functioning as both a gift to existing players and a billboard for something else Sony is selling. The suits cost nothing. The awareness they build is the point.
