Diablo IV's 3.2.0 PTR Opens August 4 With Soul Splinters, Rebirth, and More Ahead of Season 15

Blizzard will open Diablo IV's 3.2.0 Public Test Realm on August 4, 2025, giving players a one-week window to try changes headed for the game's next season. The PTR runs from 10:00 a.m. PDT on August 4 through 10:00 a.m. PDT on August 11, according to Blizzard's official blog post. A PTR (Public Test Realm) is a test server where players try unfinished features and give feedback before they ship to the live game.

The update touches both Eternal and Seasonal Realms — the two ways to play Diablo IV, where Seasonal characters start fresh each season and Eternal characters persist permanently. Blizzard noted that this PTR intentionally offers a different set of features than usual because more Season 15 content will be revealed at BlizzCon, the company's fan convention.

The headline addition is Soul Splinters, a new type of socketable item — meaning players slot them into jewelry for stat bonuses, similar to gems. They come in five rarities: Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique, and can be upgraded using the Horadric Cube, a returning crafting system from earlier Diablo games.

Each Splinter carries a powerful upside paired with a sharp drawback, and the numbers scale with the item's quality tier. The Splinter of Anguish grants 15–35% Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed but raises Primary Resource Costs by 30%. The Splinter of Sin adds 10–40% Maximum Health while cutting Maximum Primary Resource by 30%. The Splinter of Lies boosts Gold and Crafting Material drop rates by 40–100% and grants 25% bonus experience, but leaves the player permanently Weakened and Vulnerable — two debuffs that amplify incoming damage.

The Splinter of the Black Soulstone grants 7–50 All Stats and lets players absorb souls from killed enemies for 15 seconds, with each soul increasing damage by 2–5% but also increasing damage taken by 0.5%, stacking without refreshing. The Splinter of Pain provides 10–40% Damage Reduction but slows Movement Speed by 30%. The Splinter of the Mother makes the player Unhindered and turns touched enemies Vulnerable, but after touching 100–250 enemies, the player is Stunned for 4 seconds.

The Splinter of Hellfire grants 35–625 Resistance to All Elements and 40–100% increased damage, but removes 100% of Critical Strike Chance entirely. The Splinter of Damnation provides Shadow Resistance and triggers an effect when killing an Elite Pack, though Blizzard's blog post truncated the full description. Each Splinter also provides an elemental or physical resistance, making them defensive tools as well as offensive gambles.

Beyond Soul Splinters, the PTR previews several other features: new legacy Unique items (rare gear with distinctive effects), character Rebirth (which lets players reset an existing character for a new season rather than creating one from scratch), the Horadric Post, changes to Mythic Uniques (the game's rarest gear tier), new Charms, Challenge Dungeons, and Overland Surprise Attacks — ambush encounters in the open world. The Japanese-language version of Blizzard's post confirmed the Challenge Dungeons and Overland Surprise Attacks, which were not named in the English post.

For players, the PTR is a chance to shape these systems before they go live. Blizzard typically adjusts balance and fixes bugs based on PTR feedback, so the numbers above may shift before Season 15 launches. Anyone with a Diablo IV licence on PC can participate once the test realm opens.
