Diablo 4 Rebirth Feature Lets Players Carry Eternal Characters Into Seasons

Blizzard is adding a long-requested Rebirth feature to Diablo 4, letting players convert characters from the Eternal Realm — the game's permanent, non-seasonal mode — into Seasonal characters without starting from a blank slate every time.
The feature arrives in update 3.2.0, now live on the Public Test Realm (PTR), Blizzard's public testing environment where players try changes before they ship. Rebirth lets a player take an existing Eternal Realm character and move them into a new season, preserving the character's class, name, appearance, and whether they play in Normal or Hardcore mode (Eurogamer, 5 August 2026).
Cosmetic choices carry over too. Transmogs (visual armour overrides), pigments, mounts, accessories, pets, portals, and headstones all survive the transfer, along with the character's accumulated playtime (Eurogamer, 5 August 2026).
What does not survive is power. Rebirth resets the character to level one, meaning all combat progression — including Paragon levels, the endgame skill system, and Gold — is wiped clean. In Diablo 4, Seasonal characters always begin each season at level one with fresh progression, so Rebirth brings the identity forward but not the stats (diablo4.blizzard.com).
There is one housekeeping step before a player can use Rebirth. The character must have nothing equipped and nothing sitting in their personal inventory. Blizzard includes a warning that any retained items will be lost when the Rebirth process runs, so players need to stash or salvage gear before committing (Eurogamer, 5 August 2026).
Update 3.2.0 is a preview of Season 15, which is set to begin on 15 September — after BlizzCon wraps up in early September. Blizzard is keeping most of the season's content under wraps for now, teasing a fuller reveal at the show (Eurogamer, 5 August 2026).
The current season, the Season of Death Awakening, brings its own changes: a revamped Mythic system that lets any Unique item — rare, build-defining gear — be elevated to Mythic rarity (diablo4.blizzard.com/season).
Blizzard has also confirmed that base game updates will continue rolling out alongside seasonal content, and these will be available to both Seasonal and Eternal characters outside of the upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion (diablo4.blizzard.com/lord-of-hatred).
For players who have invested dozens of hours into a favourite character's look and identity, Rebirth removes a small but real friction point: no more re-creating a Barbarian from scratch every few months just to keep the face, the name, and the mount you picked months ago.
