Heavy overnight rain soaked Chicago's Grant Park and flooded parts of Lollapalooza on Saturday, 1 August 2026, forcing organisers to delay the festival's opening by three hours and cancel most early performances.

Festival organisers first posted on Facebook that doors would be pushed to 2 p.m. CT, then shared a second update saying crews were cleaning up the grounds and gates would open at 3 p.m. CT — three hours after the original noon start. The box office opened at 1 p.m. Billboard

Photos showed Hutchinson Field — home to Lollapalooza's T-Mobile and Allianz stages — submerged in standing water. Most acts scheduled during the three-hour delay window were cancelled outright, with only a handful rescheduled.

Two of the exceptions were K-pop group CORTIS and English rock band Wolf Alice. CORTIS was moved to a later Saturday afternoon slot and performed a 40-minute set instead of its originally planned 50 minutes. Wolf Alice, booked for an hour, had their performance shortened to roughly 30 minutes. Variety first reported the trimmed sets; Billboard cited that reporting.

Saturday's lineup, once the gates finally opened, featured headliners Olivia Dean and Jennie, along with performances by the Neighbourhood, Geese, Sienna Spiro, Clipse and Ethel Cain. Sunday's closing day — the fourth and final of the festival — was scheduled to bring headlining sets from Tate McRae and The xx, with additional performances from Adéla, Jade, aespa and Stella Lefty.

For a festival of Lollapalooza's scale — Grant Park routinely draws over 100,000 people per day across its four-day run — a three-hour delay is a logistical ripple that touches every level of the operation: stage crews resetting soundchecks, vendors losing peak lunch-hour foot traffic, and ticket-holders recalculating their day around a moving schedule. The artists who lost their slots entirely are the ones with the least cushion, since a festival set for a smaller act is often a rare chance to reach a massive, genre-mixed crowd.

Lollapalooza has not yet indicated whether any further schedule adjustments are planned for Sunday's closing day.
