Shudder has announced the ninth instalment of the V/H/S horror anthology franchise: V/H/S/MIXTAPE, set to debut on the streamer on 9 October 2026 (Variety).

The anthology format — each film a collection of standalone horror segments woven into a single feature — has carried the V/H/S series since its 2012 origins. That first instalment launched segments from Ti West, Radio Silence, Joe Swanberg and others, and the franchise has since expanded across sequels, spin-offs and streaming exclusives.

This instalment assembles a notably musical line-up of contributors. Segments come from Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau and Renee Zhan. Flying Lotus, the producer and film-maker born Steven Ellison, contributes music video interludes between the segments. Tobias Forge — best known as the frontman of the theatrical metal act Ghost — makes his film-making debut with a music video contribution of his own. Heavy metal veterans GWAR, the costumed theatrical rock band, make a featured appearance (Variety).

Renee Zhan's segment carries a distinctive craft credit: original creature creations from Jim Henson's Creature Shop, the puppetry and effects house whose work spans from the Muppets to The Dark Crystal (Variety).

For Shudder, the franchise has become a reliable engine. Last year's V/H/S/Halloween was the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2025 across both Shudder and AMC+, the sibling streaming service operated by AMC Networks (Variety). A ninth entry arriving inside the Halloween viewing window positions the series for another seasonal run.

The producing team behind V/H/S/MIXTAPE includes Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber and Brad Miska, with Ben Ross and Rami Yassin serving as executive producers (Variety). The group carries continuity from earlier entries in the series, which has cycled through a rotating cast of directors while keeping its core production team intact.

What makes this instalment stand out is the collision of worlds it stages. A Wu-Tang Clan founder, a Ghost frontman, intergalactic costumed metal barbarians and the Jim Henson puppetry legacy are not names that typically share a single credit block. The anthology structure lets each contributor bring their own register — a short film, a video interlude, a creature showcase — without bending to a shared tone. Whether that mix draws the audience that V/H/S/Halloween did is a question for the 9 October numbers.
