Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Will End the Trilogy — No DLC Epilogue Required

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will finish the remake trilogy's story on its own. No extra chapter tacked onto the end, no DLC needed to see how it wraps up.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi put it plainly: the base game will "definitely" conclude the story, according to VGC. In an interview with Automaton Media, he added that the development team is "serious about concluding the series" within the main game itself.

That settles a question fans have been asking since Square Enix announced Revelation on 5 June 2026. The game is the third and final entry in a trilogy that began with Final Fantasy 7 Remake (2020) and continued with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (2024) — a project that rebuilt the 1997 original across three full titles rather than a single release.

As for downloadable content, Hamaguchi said plans have not yet been finalised. But if DLC does happen, it will not extend the main story. Instead, it would take the form of a spin-off centred on a specific character, similar to Episode Intermission — the Yuffie-focused expansion bundled with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, an enhanced edition released in 2021. Hamaguchi cited that DLC as a model for what a Revelation spin-off might look like.

The contrast with the trilogy's middle entry is clear. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth received no story expansion at all, with Square Enix channelling its efforts into the third game. The first entry, Remake, did get the Intergrade treatment and its Episode Intermission side story. Revelation could go either way — or neither.

Hamaguchi also addressed the ending itself. Speaking in June, he said the trilogy's conclusion was mapped out from the start of the project and that he is confident in it, as VGC reported. That was a reassuring signal for players who have invested across two games and are waiting on a payoff that, according to the director, was always part of the plan.

For context, Revelation's story picks up with the party grieving a fallen ally while the villain Sephiroth closes in on godhood, and the heroes take to the skies aboard the airship Highwind — all drawn from the 1997 original's final act, now reimagined.

For fans, the headline is simple. The ending is in the box. Anything that comes after will be a detour, not a continuation.
