BLK Prime is developing an eight-episode documentary series about Joe Jackson, the patriarch who managed the Jackson 5 and helped launch Janet Jackson's career, with his son Marlon Jackson serving as narrator and co-developer. The series, titled The Manager, The Mythology, The Legend, was first reported by Page Six on 31 July 2026 and confirmed by Billboard on 4 August 2026. No premiere date has been set. Marlon Jackson, who performed alongside his brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Michael in the Jackson 5, said in a statement shared with Page Six that the series aims to present a more personal portrait of his father. Joe Jackson's legacy is complicated. He managed the careers of his sons as the Jackson 5, guiding the group from their Gary, Indiana beginnings to international fame, and later helped launch daughter Janet Jackson's early entertainment career. He also faced longstanding allegations of physical and emotional abuse from several family members. He acknowledged using strict discipline but denied many of the accusations.

The announcement arrives amid renewed attention on that legacy, following the release of the Michael Jackson biopic Michael. The biopic has brought the Jackson family story back into wide public discussion, and the docuseries enters that conversation from the angle of Joe Jackson himself, filtered through his son's involvement.

BLK Prime, the streaming platform behind the project, has not yet specified which family members or associates beyond Marlon will appear on screen. Joe Jackson died in June 2018 at the age of 89.

The Jacksons confirmed the project via an Instagram post, and the family's public engagement with the series suggests it will carry their endorsement rather than arriving as an outside examination.
