The certification, dated 3 August 2026 in the RIAA's Gold & Platinum database under Atlantic Records, gives Cardi B her fourth diamond single — more than any other female rapper in the programme's history (Billboard). For Megan Thee Stallion, it is her first.

It is also the first collaboration between two female rappers to reach diamond status (Instagram). Both artists marked the moment on X, formerly Twitter, according to Billboard.

'WAP' arrived in August 2020, mid-pandemic, and made an immediate chart impact. It was the first female rap collaboration to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the weekly US singles chart, and spent four non-consecutive weeks in the top spot (Billboard). The music video, featuring a cameo from Kylie Jenner, has accumulated more than 583 million views on YouTube (Billboard).

Cardi B's path to four diamond singles has been steady rather than sudden. The RIAA's Gold & Platinum database lists Maroon 5's 'Girls Like You', featuring Cardi B, as certified diamond on 29 November 2021 under Interscope Records — one of her earlier entries on that list. Her previous diamond-certified solo work, alongside the Maroon 5 feature, put her level with or ahead of peers in female rap before 'WAP' pushed the count to four.

The broader RIAA landscape offers some context for how rare diamond-level results are, particularly for women. Shania Twain remains the only female artist in the programme's history to achieve three diamond-certified albums, a benchmark measured across full-length records rather than individual tracks.

For a single released during a period when live performance was largely shut down, 'WAP' accumulating ten million equivalent units is a measure of sustained streaming and sales over six years rather than a first-week surge. The song charted immediately upon release and has stayed in circulation — on playlists, in clips, and across platforms — long enough for those plays to compound into the RIAA's threshold.
