Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets All-Time Middle East Box Office Record

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has scored the Middle East's biggest theatrical opening of all time, generating $18.4 million across the region from July 30 to August 2, 2026, according to Variety.
Empire Entertainment, Sony Pictures' exclusive theatrical distributor in the region, confirmed the record. The UAE led with $7.4 million, followed by Saudi Arabia at $5.4 million — the film's two largest markets in the area. For context, The Odyssey recently opened at $2.8 million in the UAE and $2.6 million in Saudi Arabia, according to Box Office Mojo figures cited in the same report.
Empire Entertainment president Mario Haddad Jr. publicly commented on the record-breaking opening. Brand New Day was the tenth Spider-Man film the company has distributed across the Middle East — a partnership stretching back through two decades of Sony's big-screen wall-crawler releases.
The Middle East numbers arrive on the heels of a record-shattering domestic launch. Brand New Day sold $360 million in tickets in North America (domestic, meaning the United States and Canada) during its opening weekend, per The New York Times and Deadline. That figure eclipsed the previous all-time domestic opening record held by Avengers: Endgame.
The daily breakdown adds texture. Deadline's revised dailies show the film grossed $169.8 million on its first Friday, including preview screenings across 4,487 locations — the largest opening Friday on record. Saturday brought in $101.5 million, the second-best Saturday ever, trailing only Avengers: Endgame.
What makes the Middle East figure stand out is the gap between Brand New Day and its competition. The film's UAE opening was more than two-and-a-half times The Odyssey's, and its Saudi figure more than doubled it. The region has been expanding its theatrical infrastructure rapidly in recent years, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where cinemagoing was effectively dormant until the country lifted its decades-long ban on theatres in 2018. A Spider-Man film landing as the all-time regional opener signals how far that market has come in a short window.
Brand New Day is the 11th big-budget Spider-Man movie from Sony Pictures since the franchise launched in 2002, per the New York Times. The character has now been a theatrical anchor across four distinct on-screen iterations, three Sony-led reboot cycles, and a series of Marvel Studios co-productions — each one a different bet on the same property, each one with its own release strategy and gross-corridor math behind it.
For now, the numbers speak plainly. A superhero film opened bigger in the Middle East than any film before it, and it did so while already rewriting the record books at home.
