Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered the biggest opening frame for a non-Indian film in India, dethroning Avengers: Endgame and landing as the fourth highest-grossing Hollywood release of all time in the market — all in four days. The film opened on Thursday, 30 July 2026, across 17,250 screens nationwide, and by the close of its extended four-day weekend it had grossed INR328.5 crore ($34.4 million), according to Variety. (A crore denotes ten million rupees, a standard unit for Indian box-office reporting.)

On opening day alone, the film grossed INR72.44 crore ($7.6 million), drawing nearly one million moviegoers on the Thursday. That figure set a new opening-day record for Hollywood films in India, surpassing the opening-day totals of Avengers: Endgame (Box Office India).

India's largest cinema chain, PVR Inox, reported nearly three million admissions across its screens during the opening weekend, at an average occupancy of 60 per cent — meaning six in every ten seats were filled. The chain alone grossed over INR135 crore GBOC ($14.1 million); GBOC, or gross box-office collection, represents total ticket revenue before tax deductions. Gautam Dutta, CEO of revenue and operations at PVR Inox Limited, called the response outstanding and cited demand across metropolitan centres as well as Tier II and Tier III cities (Variety).

The Hindi-language dubbed edition proved especially potent, running at 95 per cent occupancy across roughly 7,000 shows. The original English-language version led in raw collection terms with 55 per cent occupancy across nearly 8,000 shows. Southern regional-language dubs in Telugu and Tamil added further momentum across key circuits.

Bengaluru topped all Indian cities for ticket sales, contributing 23 per cent of tracked top-city grosses, followed by Hyderabad at 17 per cent, Mumbai at 15 per cent, and Delhi at 14 per cent. The southern tech hub's lead underscores how India's regional markets, not just Mumbai and Delhi, now drive opening-weekend performance for Hollywood titles.

The all-time India gross records for Hollywood releases remain held by Avatar: The Way of Water at INR484.36 crore ($50.8 million) and Avengers: Endgame at INR442.3 crore ($46.4 million). Spider-Man: Brand New Day now sits fourth on that all-time list after just four days in theatres.

What makes this stand out is the speed. Brand New Day reached its fourth-place position faster than any Hollywood film before it in India, and the gap to the top two — roughly INR116 crore — is narrow enough that the film's holds in the coming week will determine whether it climbs further. Box Office India described the film as having "smashed all initial box-office records for Hollywood films in India" (Box Office India).

The India performance mirrors the film's North American launch, where Spider-Man: Brand New Day set a new record for the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time (AP News; Reuters). For Sony, the numbers reaffirm India as a territory where superhero franchises reliably outperform, and where a well-executed dubbing strategy across Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu can multiply an opening by reaching audiences far beyond the English-language metros.
