Jamie Foxx will headline Deadlocked, an action thriller that has landed at Amazon MGM Studios for worldwide distribution, with a global streaming release planned on Prime Video. Deadline

The film casts Foxx as a grieving former Marine pulled into jury duty, only to be forced back into action when the defendant's daughter storms the courthouse to free her father — turning the trial of the century into a deadly hostage siege. Eric Scot Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack wrote the script from their own original idea.

Behind the camera is Nikhil Bhat, the Indian filmmaker whose Hindi-language action-thriller Kill premiered in the Midnight Madness programme at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Kill, set almost entirely aboard a moving train, sold to Lionsgate in a mid-seven-figure deal after its Toronto premiere and received a wide theatrical release in 2024. Bhat subsequently directed the survival thriller Apurva for Disney+/Hotstar and Cine1 in India.

Producers on Deadlocked include Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger for Range, Dave Caplan for C2, and Foxx himself through his Foxxhole Productions banner. Executive producers are Bourscheid, Liz Destro, Paul Currie and Corinne Foxx. Range and C2 previously partnered on Oz Perkins' Longlegs and The Monkey, two of the more closely watched genre titles in recent memory.

For Foxx, Deadlocked adds to a slate that already leans heavily into action. His 2025 comedy Back in Action, co-starring Cameron Diaz on Netflix, drew 46.8 million views in its opening weekend — the platform's biggest English-language movie debut since 2022. He next leads Fight for '84, an Olympic boxing drama for Netflix based on a true story, and continues to host and executive-produce the Fox game show Beat Shazam.

What gives Deadlocked an unusual profile is the pairing of a Hollywood A-lister with a director who built his reputation inside the Indian film industry. Bhat's Kill, produced by Karan Johar and starring Lakshya and Raghav Juyal, drew attention for its claustrophobic, single-location set-piece work — a filmmaker's instinct that maps neatly onto a courthouse hostage scenario. The deal also reinforces Amazon MGM Studios' continuing push to acquire star-driven, event-level titles for Prime Video's global audience.
