Amyl and the Sniffers are turning their own punk songs into country numbers. The Melbourne four-piece announced on social media that a film is on the way, capturing the band performing country covers of their own material, with the post reading: "A film is coming to you soon about Amyl And The Sniffers doing country covers of our own songs." The project has a title — Truth or Consequence — and it spans both a live album and a concert film, according to reports from 4 August 2026. The country pivot is not out of nowhere. Singer Amy Taylor told Rolling Stone Australia/New Zealand that she would love to make an Aussie country album, naming Chad Morgan and Slim Dusty — two foundational figures in Australian country music — as reference points. Their 2021 album Comfort to Me peaked at No. 2 on the ARIA Chart — Australia's national album chart — and won best independent punk album or EP at the 2022 AIR Awards. The 2024 follow-up Cartoon Darkness also reached No. 2 on the all-genres ARIA Chart, entered the Billboard 200 — the United States' flagship album chart — at No. 196, and swept three ARIA Awards: album of the year, best group and best rock album. For a band whose stock-in-trade is short, fast, loud pub punk, hearing those songs reworked with pedal steel and twang will be something new. Whether Truth or Consequence turns into a one-off detour or the start of a genuine country chapter is a question the film itself will help answer. The band has not yet announced a release date.
