Game Freak Patches Beast of Reincarnation After Divisive Launch

Game Freak has promised a series of updates to improve Beast of Reincarnation, one day after the action RPG launched to a divided audience on August 4, 2026.
The developer announced the plans through its official X (Twitter) account, saying it takes player feedback to heart and will deliver regular updates starting next week, according to Video Games Chronicle. Eurogamer corroborated the roadmap on the same day.
The first patch, scheduled for release next week, includes camera tweaks, increased text size, and bug fixes. On consoles, Performance mode — which prioritises frame rate over visual fidelity — will become the default setting in place of Cinematic mode.
Beyond the immediate fixes, Game Freak is working on a longer-term project to improve the pacing of the game's story. The first story-pacing alteration will arrive with the coming patch. The developer also posted a link to a player survey, inviting further feedback.
Beast of Reincarnation is a brand-new action RPG directed by Kota Furushima, according to the PlayStation Blog. It launched simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Game Pass — Microsoft's subscription service that offers a library of games for a monthly fee — on August 4, 2026.
The game's reception has been mixed. On Steam, Valve's PC storefront, Beast of Reincarnation carries a "Mixed" user review rating, with players commonly citing a lack of polish. Eurogamer's Matt Wales awarded the game three stars in his review, describing conflicting feelings about it.
For a studio best known as the primary developer of the Pokémon series, a brand-new IP landing to middling reviews is a notable moment. The rapid patch response — camera fixes, text-size adjustments, a default-setting swap — reads as an acknowledgment that the launch version did not meet the bar Game Freak or its players expected. The longer-term story-pacing work suggests the developer sees deeper structural issues to address, not just surface-level bugs.
What remains clear is that Game Freak is not waiting for a quiet period to act. The survey, the public statement, and a patch within the first week all signal a studio leaning into post-launch iteration. Players who bought in at launch — or subscribed through Game Pass — will see the first concrete changes within days, with more promised on a regular schedule.
