Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing film of 2026 after just seven days in cinemas, surpassing Pixar's Toy Story 5 with a worldwide total of $1.155 billion, according to Variety.

The latest Spider-Man adventure, released by Sony on July 31, crossed $1 billion in six days — making it the second-fastest film to reach that mark. Only 2019's Avengers: Endgame got there quicker, hitting $1.2 billion worldwide in three days. Brand New Day is also the 64th film in history to cross the billion-dollar threshold at the worldwide box office, Gulf News reports. Toy Story 5, in theatres since June, has earned $1.067 billion.

The numbers are staggering at almost every checkpoint. Brand New Day secured the biggest domestic debut in box office history — domestic meaning the United States and Canada — with $360 million, and the second-largest global opening of all time at $932 million, per Variety. Of its $1.155 billion total, $449 million comes from domestic markets and $706.3 million from international territories.

It was also the fastest film to reach $400 million in North America, doing so in four days. Along the way, it set the biggest Monday ever with $47 million, beating the $40 million record held by 2018's Black Panther, and the biggest Tuesday ever with $42 million, overtaking 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had held the record at $39 million.

What makes this stand out is the sheer pace. Most blockbusters build their totals over weeks of sustained attendance. Brand New Day is rewriting the timeline, piling up records almost daily and overtaking a film that has been in theatres for nearly two months longer.

The title was first revealed at CinemaCon, the annual trade convention where studios preview upcoming releases to theatre owners, by the actor playing Peter Parker. It is now the fourth live-action Spider-Man film to cross $1 billion, joining No Way Home, Far From Home, and the 2021 multiverse event that reset expectations for the franchise's commercial ceiling.

With Brand New Day sitting at $1.155 billion and still in its first full week of release, the question for the industry is no longer whether it tops the year — it already does. It is how much further it climbs before the run settles.
