Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Brand New Day has set the record for the biggest Tuesday in domestic box office history, earning $42 million for the day — domestic meaning the United States and Canada. The figure surpassed the previous Tuesday record of $39.2 million, held since July 2019 by Spider-Man: Far From Home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Tuesday record came one day after the film claimed the highest-grossing Monday domestically: $47 million, beating the $40 million record set by Black Panther in 2018, Variety reported. The back-to-back weekday records followed a record-shattering opening weekend.

Sony confirmed on Monday morning that Brand New Day posted the largest domestic opening weekend ever: $360 million, topping the $357.1 million start of Avengers: Endgame. The film also set records for biggest Thursday previews, top Friday opening, and became Sony's best-ever launch. Worldwide, its opening weekend grossed an estimated $932 million — second only to Endgame's $1.2 billion global debut, Forbes reported.

The pace did not slow. Brand New Day became the fastest feature to reach $400 million domestically, hitting the mark in four days, with a North American total of $449 million as of Tuesday morning. Sony announced Tuesday morning that the film had crossed $1 billion worldwide in six days, making it the second-fastest feature to reach that threshold. As of August 4, the worldwide total stood at $1.1 billion, making it the biggest global release of the year to date, Deadline reported.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film stars Tom Holland and Zendaya, with Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo rounding out the cast. It holds a 90 percent approval rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

International markets have been strong as well. In India, the film grossed INR72.44 crore (about $7.6 million) on its first day and has since crossed INR135 crore (about $14 million) in total gross collections, Variety reported. People.com, citing figures as of August 4, put the worldwide total at $1.05 billion, with $407 million from domestic and $645.8 million from international markets.

What stands out here is the sheer density of records falling in a single week. The film has now claimed the domestic opening weekend record, the Monday record, the Tuesday record, the fastest path to $400 million domestically, and the second-fastest sprint to $1 billion worldwide. Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman, commenting on the results, said the theatrical audience demands greatness, pushing back on the notion of superhero fatigue.

Avengers: Endgame still holds the worldwide opening weekend record at $1.2 billion. Every other benchmark in sight now belongs to Spider-Man.
