Alexander Johnson has wrapped production on The Sacrifice, a UK independent psychological thriller he wrote, stars in, and produces, with filming completed across four English counties and the project now in post-production (Deadline).

Johnson plays Dr Charles Reed, a respected clinical psychologist whose work with vulnerable young men is upended by an emergency call from a teenage patient. The patient is played by Hugo Stone. Steven Fairman directs from Johnson's screenplay, which means Johnson carries triple duty: lead actor, screenwriter and producer.

The cast brings familiar faces to the indie. Saffron Burrows, whose credits stretch from Troy to Sex Education, joins Steven Berkoff, the stage and screen veteran whose presence has anchored films from A Clockwork Orange to Beverly Hills Cop. Michael Landes rounds out the principal ensemble.

Filming took place on location in London, Devon, Surrey and Buckinghamshire. Johnson produced alongside Peter Bulbrook, with Stefan Boehm serving as executive producer — the latter role meaning Boehm helped arrange financing or strategic support without day-to-day production duties.

Johnson's career is building on several fronts. His acting credits include The Wizard of the Kremlin, and he will next appear opposite Riley Keough in Out Of This World. Behind the camera, he previously served as associate producer on The Chronology of Water and Minotaur, credits that sit between the production office and the creative team. He is represented by Affirmative Entertainment.

For an indie thriller, the package carries some weight. A writer-star-producer who controls the material from page to performance is a familiar shape in British independent film, where budgets are tight and creative control often sits with whoever brings the project to life. The addition of Berkoff gives the cast a name that travels across arthouse and mainstream audiences alike.

No release date or distribution deal has been announced. The film has entered post-production, which typically means editing, sound design and scoring are now underway. How and where audiences see The Sacrifice will depend on what emerges from that process — and whether a sales agent picks it up for the festival circuit or a distributor acquires it outright.
