Nintendo's Switch 2 has sold 23.68 million units in its first 13 months on sale, making it the fastest-selling system the company has ever produced, according to its latest financial results covering the quarter ending 30 June 2026 (VGC).

The console moved an additional 3.82 million units during the April-to-June quarter alone. Released on 5 June 2025, the Switch 2 has now been on sale for just over a year, and no other Nintendo platform — home console or handheld — has matched its pace across the first five fiscal quarters, the reporting periods companies use to track sales.

The closest comparison is the Nintendo Wii, which had sold 20.13 million units by the end of its fifth fiscal quarter. The original Switch, Nintendo's previous best-seller, had reached 17.79 million units at the same stage in its life.

The regional breakdown tells a broad story. As of the end of June 2026, the Switch 2 had sold 7.95 million units in the Americas, 6.7 million in Japan, 5.37 million in Europe, and 3.66 million across other regions.

On the software side, two titles are doing heavy lifting. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream had sold more than 8 million units as of 5 August, according to Nintendo's figures. Pokémon Pokopia had reached 3.68 million sales by the end of June.

Nintendo expects the momentum to continue. The company forecasts a further 12.68 million Switch 2 consoles sold over the next three quarters, which would bring its financial-year total to 16.5 million and life-to-date sales to 36.35 million.

Meanwhile, the original Switch — released in March 2017 — is winding down but not finished. It sold a further 660,000 units last quarter, bringing its lifetime total to 156.59 million. Nintendo projects another 1.34 million sales through the rest of the financial year, which would lift the Switch to 157.93 million lifetime units. That figure sits within striking distance of Sony's PlayStation 2, widely reported as the best-selling console of all time at 160.63 million units.

For context, the Switch 2's trajectory has been building since launch. It sold 5.82 million units in its first partial quarter (April–June 2025), crossed 10 million within roughly four months by the end of September 2025, and reached 19.86 million for the full fiscal year ending March 2026, according to Nintendo's own filings (Nintendo IR). Polygon reported in November 2025 that Nintendo was selling the console twice as fast as the original Switch at the same point (Polygon).

The original Switch, meanwhile, saw hardware sales fall 64.8% year-on-year in that same fiscal year — a natural decline as buyers shift to the new platform.
