Giorgia Whigham will star opposite Kevin Bacon in Summoner, an Amazon MGM horror thriller directed by Jeremy Slater, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Slater's script follows an exorcist named Jefferson Haddock — played by Bacon — who is called into an isolated witness protection property to deal with a demon, and accidentally unleashes a force that threatens to end him and everything around him. Whigham will play a protection agent. The film is slated to shoot in Ireland this autumn.

Summoner will mark the feature directorial debut for Slater, the genre writer behind Mortal Kombat II and The Umbrella Academy — the Netflix series adapted from the Dark Horse comic about a dysfunctional family of superhero siblings. Bacon's casting was first reported in June 2026 by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.

Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Russell Ackerman are producing. The Muschiettis are best known for the It films, the highest-grossing horror duology in cinema history. Dan Kagan, Melissa Russell, Carl Hampe and John Schoenfelder serve as executive producers.

Amazon MGM plans to give Summoner a theatrical release — a notable choice for a studio increasingly associated with its streaming platform, Prime Video. A theatrical run means the film would open in cinemas before, or instead of, appearing on the streaming service.

Whigham broke out as Blaire Bennett in Ted, Seth MacFarlane's Peacock series that became the most-watched original title in the streamer's history when it debuted in 2024. Her earlier credits include Marvel's The Punisher, Netflix's 13 Reasons Why and MTV's Scream adaptation. She recently wrapped a lead role in the indie film How the Cookie Crumbles, which she also executive produced. Whigham is repped by Gersh and Range Media.

For Whigham, Summoner is a step up into a studio-backed genre film with a recognisable co-star and an established horror producing team behind the camera. For Slater, it is a first turn in the director's chair after years as a screenwriter in the comic-book and fantasy space. The combination of an exorcist premise, a contained location and the Muschietti producing pedigree places the film squarely in the tradition of intimate, character-driven horror — the kind that tends to perform well on modest budgets.
