Ariana Grande's eighth studio album Petal has debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart published Friday, Aug. 7, making it her sixth consecutive album to reach the top spot. Released on July 31, the record enters ahead of Michael Jackson's The Essential at No. 2 and Olivia Rodrigo's you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love at No. 3 Billboard.

Grande's U.K. No. 1 streak began in 2016 with Dangerous Woman and has run unbroken through Sweetener (2018), Thank U, Next (2019), Positions (2020), Eternal Sunshine (2024) and now Petal. Her first two albums did not reach the summit: Yours Truly (2013) peaked at No. 7 and My Everything (2014) at No. 3 Billboard.

The album also placed three new tracks inside the U.K. Top 20 singles chart, including its title track, according to a midweek chart update from the Official Charts Company published Aug. 2 Official Charts.

The chart arrives one week before Grande returns to the U.K. for the final leg of her Eternal Sunshine Tour, scheduled to open Saturday, Aug. 15 with a 10-night stand at London's The O2 arena. A representative confirmed that Grande plans to step back from public visibility after completing the tour. She was previously slated to appear in a production of Sunday in the Park With George alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey at London's Barbican Centre Billboard.

Further down the chart, Olivia Dean's The Art of Loving rose one spot to No. 4 after her headline set at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival on Aug. 1. Sienna Spiro's debut album The Visitor climbed to No. 5. Katy Perry's hits compilation The Ones That Got the Plays reached a new peak at No. 8 following a run of U.K. shows.

Luke Combs also had a notable week: he set a new Guinness World Record as the first solo country act to headline Wembley Stadium, and his album The Way I Am rose to No. 15 on the U.K. albums chart after initially peaking at No. 4 in March Billboard.

For Grande, the No. 1 landing caps a stretch that has paired a new album with a major touring commitment and a planned retreat from the spotlight — a combination that gives Petal its chart moment and a built-in question about what comes next.
