Physical formats played a large role. petal was released across more than 10 digital download and streaming variants, 10 vinyl editions, five CD variants, and two cassettes. Vinyl sales alone reached 96,000 — Grande's best week on the format and the fifth-largest vinyl week of 2026 overall.

The album was announced on 28 April 2026 and carries 12 tracks. It was preceded by the single "Hate That I Made You Love Me," which became Grande's ninth No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it debuted atop the singles chart dated 13 June 2026.
