Nuna told Billboard that working on KPop Demon Hunters taught her songwriting structure and reinvigorated her love for pop music — a genre she moved away from on Trench, which leaned into rap and alternative textures and featured a Teezo Touchdown collaboration and an interpolation of Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine." Before Trench, Nuna released the 2021 EP A Liquid Breakfast, which included a Jack Harlow collaboration called "Comic Sans."
