Dana Margolin shares debut solo single Big Beautiful Sound

Dana Margolin has started a solo chapter. The ex-frontperson of Brighton rock outfit Porridge Radio shared “Big Beautiful Sound”, their first single as a solo artist, on 16 September 2026, Pitchfork.

The song is a spare acoustic ballad. Margolin set a strict limit for the recording. Every element had to fit on an eight-track record, a tape format that allows only eight separate layers of sound.

The release comes with a black-and-white video. It was directed by Mike Mills and Joe Nankin.

The solo debut follows the end of Porridge Radio. The band broke up in 2025 after four studio albums over nine years. Their last LP was 2024’s Clouds in the Sky They Will Always Be There for Me, followed by The Machine Starts to Sing, an EP drawn from the same sessions.

That EP was announced as the band’s final release, Secretly Canadian said. It was set for release on 21 February 2025. The label organised the announcement.

For listeners following the thread, solo work is not entirely new territory. The Porridge Radio song “OK” was first intended for an early Margolin solo release before it was reworked with the band. Secretly Canadian described that version as a warmer and more tender ballad.

“Big Beautiful Sound” is now the formal start. It is Margolin’s first release under their own name since the breakup.
