Konami Investigates Silent Hill 2 Remake Performance Mode Issues After Patch 1.07

Konami has confirmed it is investigating new Performance Mode problems affecting the Silent Hill 2 remake on PS5 and PS5 Pro following the release of Patch 1.07. The publisher acknowledged the issues on its official X/Twitter and Facebook accounts on 7 August 2026, stating that its team is "currently investigating" the problems and looking into potential solutions, with more information promised as it becomes available (Eurogamer).
Patch 1.07 was meant to make the game look better. According to Konami's own patch notes, the update was intended to improve fog rendering, reduce shadow flickering, cut down on movement-related visual artefacts, and boost overall image quality on both PS5 and PS5 Pro (Konami). Instead, players who downloaded the patch began reporting the opposite effect in Performance Mode — the setting that prioritises a higher frame rate over graphical fidelity. Specifically, they flagged crushed blacks and overly dark shadows that made scenes harder to read, affecting both the standard PS5 and the upgraded PS5 Pro (Eurogamer).
The game's Quality Mode, which caps the frame rate at 30 frames per second in exchange for richer visuals, appears to have escaped the issues introduced by Patch 1.07. Players using that mode have not reported the same shadow and brightness problems (Eurogamer).
Push Square reported on 7 August that the patch effectively "broke" the game on PS5 Pro, with Konami's investigation following shortly after (Push Square). Konami has not provided a timeline for when a fix might arrive.
For players, the irony is hard to miss. Silent Hill 2 is a game built on atmosphere — fog rolling through empty streets, shadows pooling in corridors, every dimly lit corner hiding something. A patch designed to sharpen that visual experience has instead left some players squinting at screens that are too dark to see properly. The affected Performance Mode is the one many players prefer for its smoother motion, making the issue more than cosmetic for a significant share of the audience.
The Silent Hill 2 remake, developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami, launched in October 2024 to strong reviews and sales. Post-launch support has been ongoing, with patches addressing technical issues across both PS5 models. Patch 1.07 is the latest in that line — and now the latest to require a follow-up of its own.
Konami has not said whether a rollback to the previous patch version is under consideration, nor whether the issues extend beyond the PS5 family to the PC version. The publisher's statement committed only to sharing more information when available.
