Perez Hilton's Family Says His Condition Is "Serious but Stable" After Livestream Incident

The family of Perez Hilton says the celebrity blogger's condition "remains serious but stable" after he appeared to harm himself during a TikTok livestream on August 4, 2026, prompting a police response to his Miami home.
In a statement published on Hilton's own website on August 8 and confirmed by Variety, the family said Hilton experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery, the statement said, will be a long process. Hilton was able to spend time with his mother and sister the day before the update was issued.
The incident began on the evening of August 4, when Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, appeared on a TikTok livestream covered in blood and seemingly cutting himself with a knife. ABC News reported on the livestream on August 6. Miami police were dispatched to Hilton's home after receiving reports of the disturbing broadcast, Variety reported. Hilton was subsequently hospitalised. NBC News, citing Hilton's team and family, said he was "receiving medical care" after police responded to the residence. ABC7 also reported the hospitalisation on August 5.
The day after the incident, the family issued an initial statement confirming Hilton was under medical care and that their focus was on his well-being. The August 8 update provided the first detailed account of the extent of his injuries and the road ahead.
The family also used the statement to issue a direct and strongly worded demand for privacy. In a bolded paragraph, they called on media and the public to stop lingering outside Hilton's home, stop following family members, and cease photographing Hilton's children. They further asked photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children.
Hilton, 48, rose to fame in the mid-2000s as one of the internet's first celebrity bloggers, building PerezHilton.com into a tabloid force that at its peak rivalled traditional gossip outlets. He later expanded into reality television, appearing on programmes including Celebrity Big Brother in the UK. In recent years he had pivoted to TikTok and other social platforms, where he continued to post commentary on celebrity news.
No further medical details were provided beyond the family's statement. No timetable for the surgery or subsequent recovery has been disclosed.
