Jane Krakowski and Angourie Rice Wrap New Jersey Shoot for Coming-of-Age Drama 'Nice Eggs'
Jane Krakowski and Angourie Rice have finished filming Nice Eggs, an independent coming-of-age drama that shot in New Jersey, according to Deadline. The film marks the narrative feature directorial debut of Amanda Lipitz, best known for her documentary work on Netflix's Found and the Sundance-premiered Searchlight title Step.
Sandi Farkas wrote the screenplay, reuniting with Lipitz after their collaboration on the scripted podcast Motherhacker, a Gimlet Media and Spotify production starring Carrie Coon. The story centres on a young woman pushing past a turbulent bond with her loving but erratic mother to break a generational cycle of fractured relationships and find her own voice.
Rice plays Cori Mulligan, a girl navigating small-town life with limiting men and a mother who cannot protect her, all while holding onto her dream of becoming a writer. Krakowski takes on the role of Ellen, Cori's mother — a faded beauty whose aspirations of stardom never materialised and whose psychological demons haunt the family.
Krakowski brings a deep stage and screen résumé to the part. A Tony Award winner and multiple Emmy nominee, she is widely recognised for her roles in 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. She recently drew critical acclaim as Mary Todd Lincoln in the extended Broadway run of Oh, Mary! and earned an Olivier Award nomination for the West End production of Here We Are. She also hosts the Fox game show reboot Name That Tune.
Rice, an Australian actress, has built a career across major franchises and prestige television. Her credits include Apple TV+'s The Last Thing He Told Me, HBO's Mare of Easttown, Marvel's Spider-Man trilogy, and Paramount's Mean Girls reboot. She will next appear opposite Spike Fearn in the Focus Features and Working Title romantic comedy Finding Emily, which opens in US theatres on 28 August after receiving critical acclaim in the UK.
Henry Tisch and Amanda Lipitz produce Nice Eggs for Key to the City Productions, alongside Diane Nabatoff, Tory Metzger, and Sandi Farkas. The producers have not yet announced a distributor or release date.
Lipitz's transition from documentary to narrative filmmaking gives the project a particular charge. Her documentaries Step and Found both drew attention for their intimate, character-driven storytelling — sensibilities that map naturally onto a coming-of-age drama about a mother and daughter. For Krakowski, the role of Ellen offers a dramatic counterweight to the comedic performances that defined her television career, while Rice continues a run of roles that balance studio franchises with smaller, character-focused work.
