Demi Lovato Returns as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock 3 Cameo
Demi Lovato is heading back to Camp Rock. The singer and actor will make a cameo appearance in Camp Rock 3, reprising the role of Mitchie Torres — the character that launched her career 18 years ago when the original Camp Rock premiered on Disney Channel in 2008 (Variety).
The cameo is a surprise addition. Lovato had already been announced as an executive producer of the new film, but without an on-screen role. The reveal that she would step back in front of the camera as Mitchie came from Variety's reporting on 11 August 2026.
Camp Rock 3 debuts on Disney Channel on Thursday, 13 August, and streams on Disney+ beginning Friday, 14 August (Disney; Variety). A Los Angeles premiere event is scheduled for Monday, 10 August, ahead of the broadcast premiere.
The Jonas Brothers — Joe, Nick, and Kevin — executive produce and reprise their roles as Shane, Nate, and Jason Gray, the band known in the films as Connect 3. Maria Canals-Barrera also returns as Mitchie's mother, Connie.
The official logline sets up the story: when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a major reunion tour, they head back to Camp Rock to find the next big thing. Newcomers Liamani Segura and Malachi Barton star opposite the returning cast, with a supporting ensemble that includes Lumi Pollack, Sherry Cola, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts, and Ava Jean.
Veronica Rodriguez directed from a screenplay by Eydie Faye. Jamal Sims handled choreography. Executive producers beyond Lovato and the Jonas Brothers include Tim Federle, Betsy Sullenger, Spencer Berman, and Gary Marsh. Disney Kids & Family produced the film.
The Camp Rock franchise carries serious weight in Disney Channel's history. The 2008 original ranks as the second-most-watched Disney Channel Original Movie of all time and currently sits at No. 3, behind High School Musical 2 and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie. Its 2010 sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, was the channel's biggest movie that year. Across both films, the franchise has been watched for more than 535 million hours to date, according to Variety.
For fans who grew up with the originals, the cameo closes an 18-year circle. Lovato was 15 when the first film aired. The character of Mitchie Torres — a girl who walks into music camp as a nobody and leaves as a performer — became the launchpad for a career that has since spanned platinum albums, television, and film. Bringing her back, even briefly, gives the new film a direct link to the story that started it all.
