Apple's Eddy Cue Says Ted Lasso Season 4 Is "Good Enough" for a Fifth Season

Apple's top streaming executive Eddy Cue says Ted Lasso Season 4 is "good enough" to warrant a fifth season — and he hopes it happens.
Cue, who oversees Apple's services division including Apple TV+, made the remarks in an interview with Screen Rant published 11 August. "I hope so," he said when asked about a fifth season. "There's plenty of stories to go on" (Screen Rant). He added, simply: "We'll show up. No worries."
His comments came a week after Season 4 premiered on Apple TV+ on 5 August, rolling out weekly with its finale set for 7 October. In the new season, Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women's football team. The season added Jack Burditt as executive producer alongside new cast members Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely (Deadline).
What makes Cue's enthusiasm notable is that Apple has not officially greenlit a fifth season. At Apple's 2026 film and TV slate press day in February, Deadline reported there was no confirmation on what the trade called a sequel for one of Apple TV+'s biggest shows (Deadline). Cue's remarks this week are the strongest signal yet from inside the company that more Ted Lasso is on the cards — but they are not a renewal.
There is structural room for it. Deadline reported in 2025 that the Ted Lasso core cast was believed to have a three-year deal that could allow for three more seasons beyond the original run (Deadline). A straight-to-series order — meaning no pilot is shot first — has been the pattern for the show's recent seasons.
The broader picture for Apple TV+ has been brightening. Cue said in January that December set a new monthly record for the platform's engagement and viewership, with total hours viewed up 36 percent year over year (The Hollywood Reporter).
For fans, the message from Cue is straightforward: Apple wants more Ted Lasso. Whether that want becomes an order is the next beat in this story — and with Season 4 still airing through October, there is time for Apple to make the call.
