Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Players Have Spent 8 Million Hours Crouching and Petted 28 Million Animals

Players of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Resynced have collectively spent over 8 million hours crouching and petted 28.29 million animals, Ubisoft has revealed in a new round of community statistics shared on 13 August 2026.
The numbers paint a picture of a player base that is both deeply invested and endearingly distractible. Cats top the petting leaderboard as the most-fondled creature in the game. Crouching — the stealth stance players use to avoid detection — accounts for roughly 10% of the average player's total playtime, according to GameSpot.
The seas have been just as busy. The Jackdaw, the player's ship at the heart of the pirate adventure, has collectively travelled over 40 million kilometres — a distance Ubisoft notes is equivalent to about 1,000 trips around the world. When players weren't sailing, they were fighting: the community holds a 47% win rate against Legendary-class ships, the toughest naval combat encounters in the game.
On the fashion and gear front, the Privateer outfit is the most popular cosmetic choice among players, and the Le Bourgeys Blades take the crown as the community's most-used weapon.
Black Flag Resynced, an enhanced and expanded version of the 2013 original, launched with strong commercial momentum. The game sold 3 million units in its first week, GameSpot reported, and reached 99,451 concurrent players on Steam (a PC games storefront) on launch day — a franchise record on the platform, GameSpot noted. Ubisoft built the Resynced edition with new missions, content, and updates that expand on the original Black Flag, alongside an Animus Hub — a progression-tracking system that rewards players for completing challenges across multiple categories.
The studio has been steadily feeding details to players in the lead-up to and following launch. Ubisoft published a deep-dive article on the game's parkour, stealth, and combat systems on 5 May 2026, followed by a closer look at the new content layered on top of the original on 12 June 2026. A guide to the Animus Hub's synchronisation and reward systems arrived on 8 July 2026.
What makes these community stats worth a look is the contrast they draw. A studio spends years tuning a naval combat system, balancing legendary-ship difficulty, and building a stealth mechanics overhaul — and then the player base spends the equivalent of 1,000 circumnavigations of the globe sailing around and eight million hours crouching behind crates. The numbers are a reminder that the gap between what developers design for and what players actually do with their time is often wide, and usually delightful.
For fans of the series, the stats also confirm that Black Flag — already one of the most fondly remembered entries in the long-running franchise — has found a second life with a fresh coat of paint and a community clearly determined to pet every cat in the Caribbean.
