Thai Series Head Across Southeast Asia as Viu and TrueVisions Now Open a Shared Branded Zone
Six premium Thai series land on Viu across Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines on 20 August, as the Hong Kong-based streamer and Thailand's TrueVisions Now open a jointly branded content zone — the first time TrueVisions Now has distributed its catalogue outside its home market.
The branded zone launches with six titles drawn from TrueVisions Now's library, with more expected in later phases. It sits inside Viu's existing app and is reachable on both the platform's ad-supported free tier and its paid subscription tier, meaning viewers do not need to upgrade to watch Variety.
The opening slate spans comedy, romance, horror-drama and a police procedural. The comedy A Sample Family stars Puak Pongsathorn Jongwilas, Cris Horwang and Neen Neenara Boonnithipaisit as a struggling family that secretly moves into a lavish show house to help their daughter get into an international school. The rom-com Oops! I'm the Concubine sends a modern woman, played by Emma Panisara Yang, back to an earlier era, alongside Peterpan Tadsapon Wiitawan.
Three more series round out the launch. My Wife's Gunslinger God pairs Aom Sushar Manaying and Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat in a rom-com about a secretive gamer in a yearlong marriage of convenience. The Cops Spy on Stage, starring Nichamon Kham-in, Atchariya Sritha and Somchai Saiutha, follows a young police officer who assembles a makeshift squad to revisit a case tied to his father's past. The horror-drama Mui Fei The Medium, with Pat Chayanit Chansangavej and Offroad Kantapon Jindataweepol, centres on a young medium who returns as a vengeful spirit after surviving human trafficking. The romance To Love and Cherish, starring Film Thanapat Kawila and Bua Nalinthip Sakulongampai, rounds out the six with a story about a woman reuniting with her first love years after losing touch Variety.
For TrueVisions Now, the tie-up is a first step beyond Thailand. The platform, part of True Corporation, positions itself under a "Nowtainment" concept that bundles sports and entertainment with streaming partners including Viu, iQIYI and WeTV. Ongard Prapakamol, head of TrueVisions and media at True Corporation Plc, said the collaboration expands the reach of the company's content to viewers in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines Variety.
For Viu, which operates across Asia, the Middle East and South Africa under PCCW Media, the deal adds Thai-language titles to a regional catalogue already heavy on Korean and Chinese content. Janice Lee, CEO of PCCW Media Group and Viu, said Thai content continues to resonate with viewers across the region and that the collaboration strengthens Viu's content offering Variety.
The partnership fits a broader pattern of Viu stitching together bundled and cross-licensed deals across Southeast Asia. In June, Viu and iQIYI International announced a combined streaming subscription deal for Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia in the second half of 2026 Variety. TrueVisions itself has been building its sports portfolio, securing broadcast rights to four major ASEAN football competitions in Thailand under an agreement dated 22 June 2026 SPORTFIVE.
For fans of Thai drama in the three launch markets, the practical effect is immediate: six new series on a platform many already use, available whether they pay or not.
