Camp Rock 3's 17-Year-Old Star Learned the Cello for Real — Up to Two Hours a Day
A 17-year-old actress learned to play the cello from scratch for her role in Disney's Camp Rock 3, practising up to two hours a day rather than faking it on camera.
Lumi Pollack plays Rosie, a gifted cello prodigy who competes for the chance to open for the band Connect 3 — played by the Jonas Brothers — on their national tour. The film premiered on Disney Channel and is streaming on Disney+ (The Hollywood Reporter).
Pollack already played piano and guitar. The cello was new. Her instructor, Cyrena Huang, taught her the instrument properly, not just how to look convincing on screen. Pollack has said she found the cello harder than the guitar (The Hollywood Reporter).
The Camp Rock franchise began in 2008 with original stars Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers, and a sequel followed in 2010. Lovato and all three Jonas Brothers — Kevin, Joe and Nick — serve as executive producers on the third film and appear in it (The Hollywood Reporter). Disney greenlit the project with that group returning, as reported by Deadline and Variety in September 2025 (Deadline; Variety).
Pollack's prior credits include the 2021 film The Fallout and Disney Channel's 2025 series Electric Bloom. The Camp Rock 3 cast also includes Casey Trotter as drummer Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as choreographer Callie, and Ava Jean in a social media role (People).
What stands out here is the choice to have a young actor actually learn the instrument rather than rely on movie magic. A film about a music prodigy where the lead can really play carries a different kind of weight — and Pollack put in the hours to get there.
