Weezer have released a music video for their new single 'C.E.O.' that recreates the setup of their 1994 clip for 'Undone (The Sweater Song)' — and then sends it off the rails. The video, published on 5 August, features Tony Hawk, Rob Riggle, Rob Huebel, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Curry Barker, Dax Flame and Chit in guest roles, according to Rolling Stone.

In the original 1994 video, the band performed in front of a blue backdrop while dogs roamed the set. In 'C.E.O.,' the backdrop is gold, and Rob Huebel and Rob Riggle play stereotypical chief executives watching the shoot. When the director releases a swarm of bees onto the set, the band walks off and is replaced by lookalikes.

The track itself leans into the nostalgia the video mocks. Its lyrics include the lines 'Cranking out another Nineties jam' and 'They just want the classics… There's something special about your early shit.'

'C.E.O.' is the latest preview of 'Weezer' — dubbed 'The Gold Album' — the band's 20th studio album, due 21 August. The record was co-produced by Kenny Blume, formerly known as Kenny Beats, and Klas Åhlund, the Swedish producer and songwriter behind work with Robyn and others. Two earlier tracks have already surfaced from the album: 'Shine Again' and 'We Might as Well be Strangers.'

The album's arrival is paired with a substantial touring schedule. Weezer's 'Weezer: The Gathering' tour opens 8 September in Sacramento and runs across North America through late October, with The Shins and Silversun Pickups opening. After the North American leg, the band heads to Japan in February 2027 and then to Europe in May and June, with Taking Back Sunday supporting overseas.

Tickets for the U.K. and Europe dates go on sale 12 August, with Japan tickets available from 5 September. Members of the Weezer Fan Club can access a pre-sale on 11 August.

For fans, the 'C.E.O.' video works as both a joke and a calling card. Thirty years on from the 'Sweater Song' clip, Weezer are swapping dogs for bees and a blue screen for gold — and the lookalikes stepping in for a quit mid-shoot land the punchline without a word of dialogue.
