Marcus Walkom Launches Independent Entertainment Law Firm With Major Australasian Client Roster
Entertainment lawyer Marcus Walkom has launched Walkom Entertainment Lawyers, an independent practice headquartered in Brisbane, following the closure of his former firm Media Arts Lawyers in July.
The new firm opened its doors with a client list spanning Wolfmother, The Teskey Brothers, Tigerlily, The Amity Affliction, Electric Fields, Daine, Dan Gorringe, Drax Project, Young Franco, Untitled Group, King Stingray, and Hollow Coves, according to Billboard. The practice also advises record labels, distributors, publishers, promoters, festivals, managers, industry bodies, and digitally native creators across Australasia and international markets.
Walkom, who spent 15 years in the music and entertainment industry per The Music, joined Media Arts Lawyers in 2021 and opened its Brisbane branch the following year. That firm ceased trading after more than 25 years advising clients across the entertainment, media, and creative industries, as noted on its former website. Walkom describes his new venture as a boutique Australasian firm focusing on music, entertainment law, and M&A — mergers and acquisitions, the buying, selling, and consolidating of companies and assets.
The firm is registered on the Queensland Law Society's register of solicitors at 179 Ann Street, Brisbane. Though based in Queensland, it operates with networks across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the broader APAC region.
Walkom's deal history includes a notable role in BMG's acquisition of Andrew Stockdale's publishing, recorded music royalties, and neighbouring rights for Wolfmother — neighbouring rights being the royalties paid to performers and master recording owners when their work is publicly broadcast or streamed. Over the years he has also worked with Cat Stevens, among other artists, as reported by The Lawyer.
Joining him at the new firm is Lauren Holyoak, a performing musician and self-managed artist who has come on board as a lawyer — a hire that brings direct artist-side experience into the practice.
Beyond legal work, Walkom founded and runs We Are Golden, a management company and record label focused on emerging talent. He serves on the board of the Association of Artist Managers (AAM) and the Gold Coast Music Alliance (GCMA), and was named to Billboard's 2025 Top Music Lawyers list.
For Australasian artists and their teams, the launch restores an independent legal option with deep ties to both the regional and global music business at a moment when catalogue deals, streaming economics, and cross-border touring contracts demand specialised counsel.
