Game Science Shows 15 Minutes of Black Myth: Zhong Kui Gameplay — Its First Real Look at the Game

Game Science has released a 15-minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the studio's second game in the Black Myth series, giving players their first extended look at the title in action.
The trailer was published on 20 August 2026 on Game Science's official YouTube channel under the title "Black Myth: Zhong Kui – 15 Minutes Gameplay Trailer" VGC. It marks the studio's annual 20 August update to players — a yearly cadence Game Science has adopted for sharing progress on its projects.
On X, the studio said the footage offers a first look at the protagonist in combat and a glimpse of the story. All of it was captured in-game from a work-in-progress build running at a 21:9 aspect ratio — the wide cinematic format common in film and high-end displays. Game Science also cautioned that the final release may differ from what appears in the trailer, and an FAQ on the game's official site notes that some elements shown are still experimental.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is a single-player action RPG in the "souls-like" mould — a genre named after the Dark Souls series, known for deliberate, punishing combat and atmospheric world design. The game is rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore, centring on Zhong Kui, a legendary figure associated with vanquishing demons. Game Science has said it will follow the same business model as its predecessor, Black Myth: Wukong, which released in August 2024 to strong sales.
The studio first announced Zhong Kui during Gamescom's Opening Night Live show in 2024. At that point, the game was in very early development with no in-game footage available. A reveal trailer followed at Gamescom 2025. As of this latest trailer's release in August 2026, the game was still described as being in early development, according to GameSpot.
Game Science has not set a release date. The studio has said the game will not release quickly, stating it needs to be good enough to impress its "seasoned colleagues" — an internal standard the team has set for itself. The developer has also said it hopes to preserve what players loved about Wukong while introducing distinctive gameplay suited to the new protagonist, alongside what it described as cutting-edge technical features and differentiated storytelling approaches.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is set to release on PC and major consoles. No specific platforms beyond that have been confirmed.
For fans of Black Myth: Wukong, the trailer is the first tangible evidence of what the second game will feel like to play. The combat footage, captured from a build still deep in development, offers a window into how Game Science is approaching a new protagonist and a new corner of Chinese mythology — with the studio making clear that what viewers see now may not be what they get at launch.
