Country singer Luke Combs voices a character for the first time in the Disney Channel animated series Big City Greens, playing a country superstar named Rusty Twang in the show's season five premiere episode, titled "Daddy Ditty," which airs Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on Disney Channel and arrives on Disney+ the following day, Billboard reported.

As Rusty Twang, Combs sings a new original song called "Watch Out for the Greens." Combs told Billboard he took the role partly because his three young sons are Disney fans.

The premiere rolls out the first five episodes of season five in one block. Disney has slated 30 new episodes for the season in total, Screen Rant reported, with more episodes set to release through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.

Combs joins a guest roster for season five that spans well beyond music. Author Stephen King and actors Dylan Sprouse, Chad Michael Murray and Megan Stalter also lend their voices to the new season, according to Billboard.

Combs comes to animation from a touring career with its own milestones. He was the first solo country artist to headline London's Wembley Stadium — a 90,000-capacity venue — where he played three shows. That distinction sits alongside a string of country radio hits and multi-platinum certifications, the RIAA's measure of sales and streaming equivalents.

For Big City Greens, now entering its fifth season on Disney Channel, the Combs casting pairs a current country star with a show aimed at a family audience. The character of Rusty Twang — a country musician within the world of the series — lets Combs perform in a medium he has not worked in before, while the original song gives the episode a musical centrepiece rather than a voice cameo in isolation.

For Combs' fans, the appeal is straightforward: a new song, a new format, and a premiere timed to land before the weekend. For Big City Greens viewers, it is one name on a guest list that already includes one of the best-selling novelists alive.
