Dungeons & Dragons Game Warlock Gets First Proper Trailer at Gamescom

The Dungeons & Dragons video game Warlock received its first proper gameplay trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live on 25 August 2026, showing a third-person action game that appears to be entirely single-player (Eurogamer).
The trailer marks the most substantial look at the title since a world-premiere cinematic played live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles at The Game Awards 2025 in December (YouTube; IGN). At that earlier reveal, Warlock was described as an open-world, single-player action-adventure set in a dark fantasy world inspired by the tabletop role-playing system.
The protagonist is Kaatri, a veteran warrior who makes a pact — a binding magical deal central to the D&D "warlock" class — to gain her powers (Eurogamer; warlockthegame.com). In the Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks, a warlock draws abilities from a supernatural patron; the game builds its story around that bargain.
Development is being led by Invoke, the in-house studio of Wizards of the Coast — the Hasbro-owned publisher that owns Dungeons & Dragons (Eurogamer). The project is directed by Corinne Busch, previously a senior figure on BioWare's Dragon Age: The Veilguard (Eurogamer).
Warlock is scheduled for release in 2027, with the specific launch window still to be narrowed down (Eurogamer).
The game's official marketing account had flagged the Gamescom showcase in the days before, scheduling the gameplay premiere for 25 August during Opening Night Live (Instagram). Following the initial reveal at The Game Awards, IGN reported that a larger gameplay reveal was planned for later in summer 2026 (IGN); the Gamescom trailer appears to be that promised look.
For fans of role-playing games, the single-player focus is notable at a time when many publishers are building around live-service models — games designed to be sold and updated in seasons after launch, often with multiplayer at the centre. Warlock is taking the opposite path: an open-world, story-driven adventure built for one player at a time.
Wizards of the Coast has been expanding its video-game footprint around the D&D brand, and Warlock is one of the clearest signals yet of how the publisher intends to translate the tabletop experience into a standalone console and PC title. With release not expected until 2027, the coming months will likely bring more detail on platforms, combat systems and the shape of Kaatri's journey.
