Owlcat Games debuted a new trailer for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn during Gamescom's Find Your Next Game showcase on 26 August 2026, giving players their first look at Project Caliban — one of the most feared storylines in the Expanse universe. GameSpot

Project Caliban, in the world of The Expanse, is a top-secret experiment run by the corporation Protogen. It harnesses the Protomolecule — an alien substance that can rewrite living matter — to create supersoldiers. The trailer shows players facing off against both Protogen's hired guns and a human-Protomolecule hybrid test subject, the terrifying result of that programme. GameSpot

The footage also offers a look at the player-character, known as "the Captain," exploring a Protogen facility on Ganymede, one of the solar system's moons. The Captain shown is a woman, though players will be able to create and customise their own version as an Earther, Martian, or Belter — the three main factions in The Expanse's 24th-century setting. Owlcat's visual take on the Protomolecule draws from the Expanse television series, where it glows bright blue, rather than the brownish, slimy substance described in the original novels by James S. A. Corey. GameSpot

Osiris Reborn is a sci-fi action RPG with third-person, cover-based gunplay and special abilities. Players take on the role of a Pinkwater Security mercenary whose shore leave on the asteroid Eros spirals into something far larger. The game visits iconic Expanse locations including Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna, and carries mature content descriptors for blood, slavery, and textual references to abuse and self-harm. The project has already weathered one notable change. Following an April 2026 beta test, player complaints about the male lead's voice acting led Owlcat to recast the role. The studio has not named the new actor. GameSpot

Owlcat Games, the developer and publisher behind the title, previously showed a gameplay trailer at the Xbox Partner Preview event in March 2026. The studio is best known for its work on Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, both isometric RPGs — making Osiris Reborn a shift into third-person action territory for the team. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn does not yet have a specific release date. It is expected to launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in the second quarter of 2027, and is available to wishlist now on Steam. The Expanse property is a trademark of Alcon Television Group, LLC. GameSpot

For fans of the books and show, the Caliban reveal is a clear signal that Owlcat is not sidestepping the darker corners of the setting. The supersoldier programme sits at the heart of The Expanse's most harrowing arc, and putting it front and centre in a trailer suggests the game will go there.
