Grand Theft Auto VI could get multiplayer in 2027, according to Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy.

Clancy floated the date in a Bloomberg interview, where he said the streaming platform — a website where viewers watch people play games live — had spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about its plans for GTA VI. He theorised Twitch could see an even bigger boost in 2027 when multiplayer for the game arrives, GameSpot reported.

That timing is not official. Rockstar has described GTA VI so far as a single-player experience, a story played solo offline. It has not announced multiplayer support, the shared online mode where players meet in the same world.

GTA VI is scheduled to release on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC edition is expected to follow the console release, though no date has been given.

The staggered pattern would be familiar. Grand Theft Auto V was released on 17 September 2013. Its online mode, GTA Online, debuted a few weeks after launch and went on to run for more than a decade with regular updates.

PC remains part of that longer picture. Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick said on 17 September that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to the company over time, GamesRadar reported. He said Take-Two's strategy is generally to launch for any platforms with a meaningful audience over time.

Zelnick added that GTA VI is skipping PC at launch to focus on the core console consumer, not because of a rumoured PlayStation exclusivity deal. Console here means machines built to plug into a television, while PC means personal computers built for games and other software.

The Steam figures help explain the interest. GTA 5 Legacy, released on Steam in April 2015, has nearly 1.9 million user reviews with an 88% positive rating and peaked at over 1.1 million concurrent players, meaning people playing at the same time. The newer GTA 5 Enhanced has over 210,000 Steam user reviews with an 83% positive rating.

For Twitch, the wait may be useful. Clancy previously described the GTA VI launch as "a little strange" for the streaming service, Dexerto reported. He believes GTA V will remain popular after GTA VI launches.

What makes this stand out is the gap. A solo story first, then a shared online world later. Fans have seen that playbook before, and streamers may get two separate surges to work with.
