Michelle MacLaren will direct the first two episodes and serve as executive producer on 'Disavowed', an upcoming Apple TV action thriller series starring James Marsden, according to Deadline.

The series centres on Brad Griffin, a legendary CIA case officer who is fired during a global manhunt for the assassin who killed his colleague. Cut loose from the agency, Griffin then goes after the $15 million federal bounty on the killer himself. Marsden also holds an executive producer credit on the show.

'Disavowed' is created by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the writing duo whose credits include 'Iron Man' and 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts'. Marcum and Holloway executive produce alongside Tom Spezialy, MacLaren, Rebecca Hobbs, and Marsden. The series hails from Blue Marble Pictures, the production company behind Apple's acclaimed drama 'Pachinko', with Blue Marble's Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity also serving as executive producers.

MacLaren executive produces through her overall deal with Apple — an arrangement where a creator commits exclusively to one platform — alongside producing partner Rebecca Hobbs. Both are represented by CAA and Goodman Genow Schenkman.

For MacLaren, 'Disavowed' adds another high-profile directing credit to a career built on prestige television. She made her directing debut on 'The X-Files' episode 'John Doe', written by Vince Gilligan. That connection proved consequential: MacLaren later reunited with Gilligan as executive producer and director on AMC's 'Breaking Bad', a series widely regarded as a landmark of modern television drama.

MacLaren is a two-time shared Emmy Award winner, with two individual nominations for directing. Her appointment to 'Disavowed' signals Apple's continued investment in big-scale action storytelling for its streaming service, pairing an experienced television director with a feature-screenwriting team and a bankable lead.
