Netflix Wraps Filming on Live-Action Scooby-Doo: Origins for 2027 Release

Netflix has finished filming its live-action Scooby-Doo series.

The company announced on Sunday, 13 September, that Scooby-Doo: Origins has wrapped production. The series was shot in Atlanta and is slated for a global release on Netflix in 2027, according to Variety.

The show is described as a modern reimagining of the mystery-solving group of teenagers and their dog. That means real actors and a real dog this time, rather than a cartoon.

McKenna Grace plays Daphne Blake. Tanner Hagen plays Shaggy Rogers. Abby Ryder Fortson plays Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins plays Fred Jones. Together they form the four young leads at the centre of the gang.

Scooby himself will be played by a real Great Dane. That is a dog, not a visual effect. Paul Walter Hauser also stars as Scooby-Doo's owner.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are the showrunners, meaning the executives in day-to-day charge of the series, as well as its writers. Their credits cover the scripting and running of the production through the Atlanta shoot.

Netflix has previously said the story follows Shaggy and Daphne Blake during their final summer at camp, according to Netflix Tudum. Production had only got under way in late August, according to a separate Netflix Tudum update. That makes for a tight few weeks on location before the wrap announcement.

For fans, this means a wait for the next date. No day-and-month premiere has been given. Only the 2027 window is confirmed so far, with the completed filming now in the can ahead of release.
