Diablo 5 announced for 2029 with solo and co-op play

Blizzard has announced Diablo 5, with launch planned for 2029.
The reveal came during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, part of BlizzCon 2026 held on 12-13 September 2026, according to Blizzard. The game is early in development. Blizzard does not expect to release it for another three years.
Senior game director Joe Shely discussed the plans in a group interview at BlizzCon. He said Diablo 5 can be played solo or multiplayer. Like Diablo 4, players should be able to play all Diablo 5 content with friends, according to Eurogamer.
Blizzard said details on the multiplayer and co-op structure will be confirmed closer to launch. Co-op here means teaming up with other players to fight through the game together. That structure is still to be locked in.
The world itself will shift around players. Diablo 5 will bring back the procedural generation technology used in Diablo 3, a system that randomises dungeon layouts on each entry. Its overworld regions will be altered on every visit. Towns will not return as player hubs.
For fans, this means less memorising maps and more adapting each time you log in.
The story follows a caravan of lone survivors travelling across Sanctuary, the dark fantasy setting for the series. Blizzard has said Sanctuary has fallen and Diablo has won, setting up that journey.
Blizzard staged a panel titled Diablo V: Forging the Next Era on 12 September at 1:45 p.m. PT. It was billed as an early look at the game's world, classes and creative vision. The company plans to start sharing regular development updates in 2027.
