Switch 2 owners will have to wait until March 2027 to play 007 First Light.

Developer IO Interactive confirmed the delay for Nintendo's console, which had been due in summer 2026. The studio said the exact release date will be communicated later. Eurogamer

A window gives a month rather than a specific day, which publishers use when final testing is still under way. The date has slipped. The new target moves the Switch 2 edition well behind the other versions.

The extra months will be used to polish performance on Switch 2. That means tuning how the game runs on Nintendo's hardware, from smooth movement on screen to steady loading between areas. Each console handles memory and graphics differently, so teams often make several passes to keep play steady.

Work of that kind often decides whether a port feels comfortable in handheld play as well as on a television. It is routine production work, and the studio has framed it as extra time for that job alone.

Players on other systems are already inside the game. 007 First Light has sold more than 4 million copies across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Eurogamer The figure refers to paid copies across those three platforms, covering the editions already released rather than the Switch 2 version still in development.

The Switch 2 edition has already been shown in public. It was playable on Nintendo's hardware at Gamescom, the industry showcase where publishers offer short hands-on sessions. Publishers often use those short sessions to watch how new players handle controls and comfort.

A brief demo at an event of that size can attract attention, but it does not lock in a launch date. Builds shown on a show floor are usually tuned for short bursts of play.

Confusion around the date began earlier in the summer. In late July, a 16 September date for the Switch 2 version appeared on Amazon Japan. The listing was never confirmed by IO Interactive, and retailers sometimes display dates before publishers finalise plans.

Such listings can spread quickly online even when they carry no statement from the maker. The March 2027 window now replaces both that unofficial date and the earlier summer 2026 target.

For fans, this means a longer split between platforms. Anyone on PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S can keep playing the current editions. Anyone holding out for the Switch 2 port faces a wait until next year, with a precise day still to be announced.
