Brosnan and Mirren Defend MobLand Co-Star Tom Hardy
Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren have defended their MobLand co-star Tom Hardy over reports questioning his behaviour and his future on the crime drama.
The pair backed Hardy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on 15 September, after a summer of speculation around the second season shoot The Hollywood Reporter. Their message was simple. They were surprised, and they support him.
Summer reports claimed Hardy could be fired over alleged unprofessional behaviour, including staying in his trailer for hours and making cast and crew wait. A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Hardy refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time, kept the cast waiting, and described it as "a power play". That account comes from an unnamed source. It has not been confirmed as fact by the production.
Brosnan said he and others were blindsided by the reports. He said he first learned of them from a text from one of his sons while he was away on vacation. Mirren had already shown her support in May, posting a photo of Hardy on Instagram with the caption "Love you now and always".
MobLand was created by Guy Ritchie. Brosnan plays Conrad Harrigan and Mirren plays his wife Maeve, the leaders of the Harrigan crime family. Hardy plays fixer Harry Da Souza, while Geoff Bell plays Richie Stevenson, head of the rival Stevenson family.
The core cast is staying put. Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren return for a new season premiering on 18 September, according to Paramount+ Paramount+. Hardy will also return as Harry Da Souza for Season 3, Variety reported on 3 September Variety.
That updates earlier reporting from May, when outlets including Deadline and Variety said Hardy would not return for a potential third season. At the end of June, Deadline reported the show was expected to get an order for a third season — meaning a formal renewal, or green light for more episodes — although it had not yet been officially renewed at that point. The series had been renewed for a second season the previous year.
Hardy, Mirren and Ritchie appeared together at the MobLand premiere in London, Variety reported on 10 September. It was a public show of continuity after months of off-screen chatter.
What makes this stand out is who is speaking. Leading actors rarely address unconfirmed set reports on the record. Brosnan and Mirren have done so by name.
For fans, this means no change at the top. The Harrigans are back intact.
